چکیده

In order to quantify the relationship between multiple variables, researchers often carry out a mediation analysis. In such an analysis, a mediator (e.g., knowledge of a healthy diet) transmits the effect from an independent variable (e.g., classroom instruction on a healthy diet) to a dependent variable (e.g., consumption of fruits and vegetables). Almost all mediation analyses in psychology use frequentist estimation and hypothesis-testing techniques. A recent exception is Yuan and MacKinnon (Psychological Methods, 14, 301-322, 2009), who outlined a Bayesian parameter estimation procedure for mediation analysis. Here we complete the Bayesian alternative to frequentist mediation analysis by specifying a default Bayesian hypothesis test based on the Jeffreys-Zellner-Siow approach. We further extend this default Bayesian test by allowing a comparison to directional or one-sided alternatives, using Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques implemented in JAGS. All Bayesian tests are implemented in the R package BayesMed (Nuijten, Wetzels, Matzke, Dolan, & Wagenmakers, 2014).

A default Bayesian hypothesis test for correlations and partial correlations

We propose a default Bayesian hypothesis test for the presence of a correlation or a partial correlation. The test is a direct application of Bayesian techniques for variable selection in regression models. The test is easy to apply and yields practical advantages that the standard frequentist tests lack; in particular, the Bayesian test can quantify evidence in favor of the null hypothesis and...

Comparison between Frequentist Test and Bayesian Test to Variance Normal in the Presence of Nuisance Parameter: One-sided and Two-sided Hypothesis

This article is concerned with the comparison P-value and Bayesian measure for the variance of Normal distribution with mean as nuisance paramete. Firstly, the P-value of null hypothesis is compared with the posterior probability when we used a fixed prior distribution and the sample size increases. In second stage the P-value is compared with the lower bound of posterior probability when the ...

Analysis of Dependency Structure of Default Processes Based on Bayesian Copula

One of the main problems in credit risk management is the correlated default. In large portfolios, computing the default dependencies among issuers is an essential part in quantifying the portfolio's credit. The most important problems related to credit risk management are understanding the complex dependence structure of the associated variables and lacking the data. This paper aims at introdu...

Location Reparameterization and Default Priors for Statistical Analysis

This paper develops default priors for Bayesian analysis that reproduce familiar frequentist and Bayesian analyses for models that are exponential or location. For the vector parameter case there is an information adjustment that avoids the Bayesian marginalization paradoxes and properly targets the prior on the parameter of interest thus adjusting for any complicating nonlinearity the details ...

A Default Bayesian Hypothesis Test for ANOVA Designs

This article presents a Bayesian hypothesis test for analysis of variance (ANOVA) designs. The test is an application of standard Bayesian methods for variable selection in regression models. We illustrate the effect of various g-priors on the ANOVA hypothesis test. The Bayesian test for ANOVA designs is useful for empirical researchers and for students; both groups will get a more acute apprec...
